Hi, I’m Pádraig.

I’ve been making bits and bobs on and off online for several years now and mostly posting them into the void. Have finally bothered to start collecting everything into one space that I can fully control and this is it.

I work mainly as a web developer and have heavily worked on the frontend in the EdTech and FinTech sectors (you can go to my LinkedIn page for all that stuff). My interests tend to sprawl all over the place but if I tried to limit it to five things I would go with:

• keeping things as simple as possible for the end user (i.e. how I wound up focusing on front-end)
• breaking things down and figuring out how they work (e.g. recreating a DVD menu)
• understanding of a system as much as possible and trying to share that knowledge as much as possible (e.g. using Windows 98’s design language to learn about browser APIs and design systems)
• quickly thrown together proof of concept demonstrations that are intentionally too rough to accidentally wind up in production
• streamlining processes with scripts and pipelines wherever possible (love a chance to write a new script)
• finding weird but interesting technology and trying to find ways to use it (e.g. my dive into Dropmix, currently looking into the Sony PocketStation and writing custom ESP32 software for my Ikea lights)

The primary objectives of making this website are to provide a one-stop location of what I have worked on in the past and present along with where my current interests are aligned in the hope of finding cool professional and personal opportunities in the future. Technical details

This website has been made with Next.js, which I haven’t used hugely before but I think I’ll have some usages for the server side in the future (e.g. I really want to make my synth project multiplayer). Also using this as a chance to try and do weird things with tailwind if the opportunity arises.

While I have mainly worked on the client side and I have done some mentored UX courses, I do not want to think too much about design considerations here so I am keeping things as basic as possible. That being said, I strongly appreciate usability improvements if you have any.

I know the favicon is really bad, I just wanted to get away from the default nextjs one asap.

The website is locally hosted on self-hosted.pdrgf.com via Cloudflare and managed by Coolify. I’m hoping to look at a ipv6 version in the near future, along with other stretch goals such as a blog.
